Forgotten Soldiers Outreach

Forgotten Soldiers Outreach has a mission: to support our United States Military servicemen and women who are currently deployed overseas. Lynelle Chauncey Zelnar was initially inspired by a friend’s son, Sgt. Kristopher Knight, who was serving in Iraq in the 173rd Airborne. After hearing about the soldiers in the 173rd Airborne who were becoming extremely frustrated, discouraged, missing their loved ones and even questioning their purpose, Lynelle knew she had to do something to encourage these men and women. Sending out emails to family and friends requesting supplies resulted in five boxes within a week of announcing the need. Local teachers and schools joined in to collect items and have the students write personal letters to the soldiers. After the initial shipment, Lynelle started receiving emails and calls with additional names of soldiers. Now, years later the list is still growing with more and more names coming from all over the country on a weekly basis.   The volunteers of this organization prepare and ship “We Care” packages on a monthly basis to registered individuals, squadrons, battalions and hospitals. Each “We Care” package includes snacks and treats, hygiene products, comfort items, and most importantly – letters of encouragement. It is with the hope of inspiring and encouraging each recipient during their separation from loved ones and friends. Forgotten Soldiers Outreach is committed to our servicemen and women in all world theaters, for as long as they are deployed.
